Encourage your children to turn off the television and use their imagination! Creativity will flourish at a young age when children engage in thought provoking activities. Try make believe cooking with a Step2 play kitchen, or build a fort with pillows and explore new lands!
If I need to do a super quick clean I go through the rooms that they are most likely to see and pick whatever stuff is on the floor and then I shove it into a closet or any other hidden storage space. Then I vacuum. That makes things look pretty good on short notice.
Things I learned while preparing my house for showings:
1) You can stuff just about anything in the dryer. Nobody looks there.
2) Same goes for the dishwasher, provided your company isn’t coming over for dinner.
3) I went to the container store and bought a ton of baskets small enough to fit into cabinets. It’s super quick to just toss stuff from the counter into a basket and throw it into a cabinet (especially bathroom stuff). No organizational skills neccessary.
Heh, I am having company this afternoon as well and it’s really hot outside, so I don’t feel much like doing honest-to-goodness cleaning. Therefore, my daughter and I hauled all the *junk* (laundry, mail, stacks of books) into the master bedroom and shut the door.
At least I didn’t have to hide dishes in the oven this time.
