Half bald but now less stressed

For the last month I have been ripping my hair out, vainly attempting to convince The Hubster to help me finish out the big bedroom. When begging, pleading, nagging and nudity all failed, I decided to corner him in to helping me.

You see, this project was pressing heavily on my sanity. On any given day, the main living area of our home looked like this

oh my fuck.

Like I said, pressing heavily on my sanity. So, instead of allowing myself to go completely bald from the stress of living in a constant state of TOY’SPLOSION! I decided to give up the room I had planned for my studio *pauses to play the tiniest violin for myself* and turn it into Kidtopia.

I hauled out the full sized bed mattress and box spring and then started taking apart the antique bed frame. The Hubster, terrified I would mangle this priceless family heirloom, sprung to action and helped me finish moving things.

No, there still aren’t baseboards down and no, the paint job isn’t finished up but HOORAY! the toys are now contained

I can even close the door and pretend the chaos doesn’t exist.

  • That is why I adore my basement, it hides the mess. It was so hard in our last place because the living room was the only large area for the kid to play and it was constantly trashed.

You cannot put a price on being able to CLOSE THE DOOR AND WALK AWAY from the after effects of the Toy Tornado. Seriously.

  • I want a toy room!!!

The kids rooms are too small for them to play successfully in, so that only leaves our living room. Which is a disaster by 9AM every day.

  • You…have…really…big…rooms. Soooo jealous right now. And a special “chaos eradicator door”, need to get me one of those.

  • Yep, a playroom was the best thing we ever did in our house. You cannot put a price on being able to shut the door to all that chaos! Now, if I could just get my kids to actually play in the playroom, we’d be golden. For now, they go get the toys in the playroom, and bring them out to me, so I can see how much fun their having.

I remember when we purchased our first house a 52 foot raised ranch that was under construction. I made a deal with my husband and moved a wall in the downstairs and added a door to create a room just for children’s toys. You see back in those days we had only one daughter and later gave birth to my 2nd child while in that house.
Friends and family always commented on how neat and clean my family room downstairs was. That toy room was my trick. I would allow my then 7 year old to take any toy out, but it had to go back in the room at the end of the day. That room mostly looked like a scene from “Twister” (long before the movie came out mind you) but I could and did close the door and take all the praise for the clean house!
