I have a few of these rolling around in my head but I’m always hesitant to declare them because you all know, once you utter it aloud, you will work to fail at it (please tell me I’m not the only one out there that deliberately undermines them self without noticing it till later).
I started the 365 family project and have managed to keep it up for 4 whole days- flabbergasting I know! This is day 4
Isn’t a beautiful? I didn’t just buy canned good either! I got 8ish pounds of ground beef 4ish pounds of boneless skinless chicken, avocados, honey and a few other high dollar items as well as mad crazy $1 items.
I am trying to be way way way more frugal in my shopping. Sure I’d have good weeks here and there but then I’d totally blow it so in 2009 I’m looking to blow a little less.. .well at least blow my budget less (quick someone get the smelling salts, The Hubster got a little worried and passed out).
I know all weeks won’t rock like this. It’s not every day you hit the motherload of 10/$10 sales but I’m hoping to get our pantry built so we can actually start hardcore stockpiling. I only let myself buy 6 cans of olives yesterday, had my pantry been up I most likely would have bought 20. The Hubster and the kids REALLY like olives (ewwww).
I have the eventual goal of being able to eat well off my stockpile for a MINIMUM of a month and would prefer to be able to eat for 3 months just off the stockpile should a situation arise where such a thing becomes necessary.

Where did you go? Albertsons? I’m thinking about going tomorrow for Chicken and Baby Food.

yeppers! Prolly going back tonight. Hubs is irritated that I only bought 6 cans of olives ROFL
I think the “high” off of how much $$$ you can save at the grocery store rivals that of the high you can get at a Dave Matthews concert … or just in your neighbor’s garage.
I love me some coupons. I make the kids guess how much I saved on each trip. They are ALWAYS low.

You did great- I miss Albertson’s, the closest we have is Kroger which also has some great 10 for $10 sales.
LMAO on blowing less this year- poor hubby.
I think you have an awesome goal. We stock up on food too although our recent move devastated our pantry and it has not quite recovered yet.
I love olives!

This is a great resolution. I am constantly monitoring my spending at the market. Ideally, I’d go to the grocery store for everything but meat and veggies. I can get them at independent organic markets for a fraction of the non-organic grocery store cost. But, dear friend, that means three trips to the store instead of one . And I’m an urban mama now, so it’s three trips, on foot, with two little kids in toe, in the cold, while pushing a bitty shopping cart down the city streets.
NO thank you.
As is, I spend about 300 dollars for a two week supply of food.
When we were really poor, my mom would drop over with a grocery store gift card every so often to make life easier. We ate WAY better then.
