Torturing you with more cuteness

drooly dreamer

Not that you all need anymore pictures of my sweet sweet brood but lately the words have been few and far between. Usually the second trimester is a busy buzzing talkative time but I guess the heat is getting to me. Anytime I step outside between 9am and 9pm I can feel my brain cells melting together.

Also, I’ve been trying to figure out what to do about my poor camera. After several years of daily use, it’s starting to show it’s age. I’d love a DSLR (as I am sure you all know- I certainly whine about it enough) but I know I need to buy a new camera before the baby arrives so I’ve also been occupying my time reading up on reasonably priced point and shoots. My Canon has treated me so well but I know I should check out what else is out there- any suggestions?

Oh, and finally a little public service announcement. Judging by my google hits as of late, the butt worms (pinworms) are fierce this season. Keep an eye on your kiddles and any posterior itching.

I just got a new Nikon Coolpix. I like it, but I’m still getting used to it. I used to have a Pentax Optio which I absolutely loved!

I have a Canon Powershot A590. It has options to change manual settings, like you can on a DSLR, but is also a nice point and shoot. It also has really nice video recording, not limited to 30 second chunks like many have. The built in image stabilizer works really well, and I have some great baby pictures.

I LOVE my Nikon DSLR, but I’ve been less than impressed with their point-and-shoots. I’d go Cannon or another brand. I’ve heard Panasonic makes good products, but if you get one of the rare duds you’re out of luck because their warranty is worthless. FWIW.

  • I have a Nikon D50 and LOVE it. Would not trade it in for anything other than another Nikon D line camera. Costco has had some good deals on them too. If I were to spend the money on anything I would save to get the Nikon.

    Happy Forth of July!!!

Canon is the best – hands down! I’ve had a Powershot G1 forever, then went to the SD850IS, and as of last weekend, moved up to the Rebel XSI. But in my family (big, extended bunch), there are two other Canon A series point and shoots, 5 (yes five) SD1000’s, two Powershot G3’s, and a Powershot G9. There are also a couple of higher end Kodak’s and Nikon coolpix and they don’t even compare to the picture quality/clarity/detail/color of even the least expensive or oldest of the Canon’s. The Rebel series currently has a rebate from Canon if you buy the Rebel XS or XSI with kit lens and then a second zoom lens (though 7/11). It puts the Canon G series (G10) about the same price as the XS with kit lens…may as well go for the DSLR then. I’d say stick with the Canon…even if it is the less expensive A series. I like my SD850IS (Elph series) for the compact size and easy portability but was disappointed that I didn’t have options for Aperture or shutter priority that I had on my G1.

ohhhh man, I am lusting after the XSi but it’s beyond my budget for now

  • I would love a DSLR too! Alas, I’ll have to stick with my pseudo-SLR (Fuji S5200 – almost like an SLR, but without the lens changing) and my Nikon Coolpix. I really like the pictures that the Nikon takes, even just being a PaS. Good luck!

We’ve had a Canon G9 for a little more than a year and we LOVE IT!! Great pics!! The closest “hybrid” you’ll get of an SLR and a point-and-shoot.

We gave our daughter (18) the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5K (http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMC-TZ5K-Digital-Optical-Stabilized/dp/B0011Z8CCG/ref=dp_ob_title_ce) for Christmas. It’s fabulous and I want one of my own. It’s so good that I took her graduation pictures with it instead of hiring a photographer. Email me and I’d be happy to send you the link to some photos taken with it.
