They say it’s your due date

I find it pretty shocking too. Now that you are six weeks (YES! Six weeks!), you’ve finally started waking up

and checking out the world.

During the previous six weeks, you mostly woke up to do some of this

or this

and to eat. Oh lord little Saffi how you eat! Of course, I think you eat so much because half of what you consume comes shooting back out your nose- damn preemie stomach and it’s sphincter weakness issues.

You are still tiny, tinier then any of your siblings ever were, and I expect you’ll be that way for a bit. Even though you are a feather weight, you are TALL with long fingers, feet, and toes. Your eyes are big and deep blue; your hair seems to be getting lighter by the day. Your eyelashes and eyebrows are already blond, I’m wondering if your locks will soon be too.

You are already picking your head up to gaze around the room. It dips and bobbles a bit but I can see you gaining strength every day. You like to wrap your fingers around mine or clutch at my clothes. You sleep best laying next to me but just this week, the swing is starting to run a close second for favorite place to crash.

At 6 weeks, you are still wearing newborn diapers and clothes. When forced to sleep in your own bed, you absolutely must be swaddled and that swaddle better be super tight or you will wiggle until you force your arms up through the top of the blanket and scream with fright because OMG THAT’S A HAND AND IT’S GOING TO GET ME!! (you haven’t yet reached that stage were hands are totally awesome objects to be stared at). Speaking of staring, you like staring at lights. You also like listening to music or the television- you really don’t like it to be quiet at all. Good thing, you are the youngest of 5 and quiet in our house is kinda like spotting a unicorn.

Only six weeks my little love and you already hold my heart firmly in your grasp
